Case Study

Hybrid Decking

Featuring a disguised softwood sub-structure and hardwood top layer.

Project Overview

This structure gives the impression of being fully clad hardwood throughout – despite being mostly formed of a tanalised softwood. After some lateral thinking and not insignificant ground-work, we built the sub-structure and staircase using exotic Yellow Balau, which was then largely hidden by the hardwood decking. This approach struck the desired balance between affordability, durability and aesthetics. We latterly installed a fire-pit, making the space usable year-round.
